I miss my 4th Graders already! I’ll be checking email and working from home next week, so definitely reach out if you have any questions or concerns!
I wanted to update you on some optional learning activities. There are no required assignments at this time, but I know many families might want to take advantage of activities and resources that continue 4th grade learning at home.
Wax Museum Biography Project: This year the Wax Museum will be an optional, at-home project. With the missed instructional time due to closures, we will not be able to use class time to instruct and work on Wax Museum this year. However, we know many students have been really excited about this memorable 4th grade experience, and we don’t want them to miss out! Students who participate will carry out a research project using a combination of print and online sources (this year the combination of sources will be extra flexible!). King County Libraries have closed, but eBooks from the library are still a great option: https://kcls.org/ Student researchers will communicate their information with:
- A written informational report
- A short speech, given while dressed as the subject
- A tri-fold poster
Independent and Family Learning Activities:
Students have access to a number of SVSD-provided and other resources. Students should have all of their usernames and passwords recorded on the pink password page in their binders. If you’re having trouble with access or need any passwords reset or provided, email me!
- Reading! Students have their March and April reading logs, and this would be a great time to catch up on some good books! Scholastic is also offering a free Learn From Home site with four text-to-speech enabled articles to read (and accompanying videos and activity ideas) every day: https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome/grades-3-5.html
- Class Paper: students can submit articles via Google Docs (or scan / send photos of comics or other hand drawn/made items) and I'll send out a student e-newsletter next week.
- Reflex Math
- Typing Agent
- Stemscopes: I’ve added student access to an additional Scope: Motion of Waves! Students complete activities online and submit them when finished!
- Zearn
- The mystery word is biography
- Lexia
- Snork’s Long Division
- Independent Writing: students have access to their Google Drive accounts and can share their Docs with me for feedback and encouragement. :-)
Important Dates:
3/17 Report cards available on line at Family Access at 4 pm
4/27 Tentative Return to School Date - fingers crossed!
6/25 Last day of school (revised date due to snow days)
With thanks,
