Larson Walk-to-Math: Extension Project: Collecting, displaying, and working with data Later this week: Topics 6 & 7 – Multiplying larger numbers At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Your signature is required on their weekly minute totals every Monday evening. I will be checking for signatures every Tuesday morning. Reading: We are reading Why the Sea is Salty. Our reading lessons focus on:
Writing: Students will work on writing narratives that include descriptive details for the setting, dialogue between characters, a clear sequence of events, and a problem and solution. Conventions: We are working on compound words, suffixes and prefixes. Science: Rock Patterns: Students will be identifying evidence from patterns in rock formations and fossils in rock layers to explain changes to a landscape over time. We’ll be making and testing models, watching videos and reading about the work of geologist and paleontologists, and practicing the Claim, Evidence, Reasoning format to support explanations. Volunteer Opportunities: Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning! Our class Signup can be viewed here: http://signup.com/go/UZYqOEz If you'd like to volunteer and are not yet on the calendar, please let me know! The camel and Texas horned lizard tied for most unique and the grizzly bear and chameleon tied for second. Thanks for sharing your learning, 4th graders! Last week students also modeled meerkat behavior by playing a predator/prey interaction game and wrote and performed skits about animal sense receptors. Larson Walk-to-Math: Topic 5: Multiplying by 1-digit Numbers. Goals: I can use place value understanding and multiplication properties to multiply by one-digit numbers. Challenge Goal: I can write algebraic expressions to show multiplication and division scenarios. I can use exponents and the Order of Operations to simplify and evaluate expressions. (Starting at the end of this week: Data collection and presentation extension project) At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Conventions: We are working on compound words, suffixes and prefixes. Science: Our guiding question is: How does an animal hunt and find food? Students will be using models and writing CERs (Claim; Evidence; Reasoning) to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in different ways.
