Life is changing in Soaring Spirit village! Last week the villagers had their first encounter with a European trader with more new experiences to come this week.
Dear Fourth Grade Families,
Our goal this week: Accurately divide 3-digit dividends by 1-digit divisors. Some items in this Monday's take-home folder: Sign and return: no weekly updates from last (short) week, Topic 9 math tests from Ms. Larson's math class, reading logs (in binders) Review and keep at home: Math fact tests, math practice packets, perspective art Free Family Field Trip Opportunities: Both the Seattle Art Museum (http://seattleartmuseum.org/) and the Burke Museum (http://www.burkemuseum.org/) have wonderful exhibits of Northwest Coast Native Americans. The first Thursday of every month, admission is FREE! So, next week on 2/6, why not grab your child and a few classmates and head into Seattle for a free museum visit which directly connects to our current Social Studies unit? Thanks for considering it! Please see the attached flyer regarding Valentine’s Day in Room 19. All students will have a Valentine’s mail sack/bag made and decorated at school. No candy will be distributed at school. Save the date: Our Potlatch Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, February 5, at 1:45 pm in the multi-purpose room (families are invited … we need an audience). Within the next couple of weeks, you should receive an email soliciting food/beverage donations and volunteers for this event. Donation Request: Our pencil sharpener has given up the ghost. If anyone has a plug-in electric pencil sharpener they would be willing to donate, we would appreciate it! Newbery Book Report: An online copy of the packet, more information, and examples can be found on the project page of this website. Gravy group members are required to complete the extra portion in the back of the packet. Finished projects due February 11th. Important Dates: 2/5 Potlatch Ceremony 2/17-21 No School - Midwinter Break 3/13 Science, Art, & Spelling Night 5:30 (PTSA) 4/3 Class Pictures (grades 3-5) 4/7-11 No School - Spring Break IXL Math practice skills: Division: E1 - 7 Snork's Long Division Coming Up This Week in Class: We are continuing Math Topic 10 (Division), encountering changes in our Storypath on the Northwest Coast Native Americans, peer editing/revising our opinion essays, and continuing our Native American "walk-to-reading" Novel Studies! With thanks, Emily Larson [email protected] Students sewed (!) and glued buttons to created art inspired by traditional NW coast button blankets, which were worn as shawls during ceremonies.
