It was wonderful to see so many of you at curriculum night last week! If you were unable to join us, I've attached a PDF version of the slide show to give you an idea of what was covered. For those who signed up for conferences, please check the schedule attached to this week's email to confirm your scheduled time. Coming up this week in class: We're finishing Envision Math Topic 2 (Generate and Analyze Patterns), investigating how plants and animals use their structures to help them survive, practicing good discussion and note-taking habits, creating and sharing Create-a-Country projects, reading Porpoises in Peril while we focus on finding text evidence to support ideas, researching and writing informative paragraphs, and starting 1st Trimester Class Jobs! Scholastic Reading Club Order: Last day today! To place an order, go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs, select "parent" and Continue. You'll need to create an account with your own user name and password (if you don’t have one yet), and use class activation code GPZ63 to connect to our class order. Books will be delivered in 1-2 weeks after the last day to order. As always, our class gets free books and materials with every online order placed. Thanks in advance for helping us expand our classroom library and programs! The last day to order books will be Monday, September 25th. If you have any questions, please let me know. Growth Mindset: Last week Mrs. Kern presented a lesson to our class about Growth Mindset and working through challenges and failure on the road to success. I've attached the slideshow and encourage you to check it out and discuss with your child! Walk-a-thon fundraising envelopes went home on Friday! The mystery word is function. Individual Picture Day: for 4th grade is September 27th. A digital copy of the order form is attached, and paper copies went home with students on Friday. Hurricane Harvey Coin Drive: Last week to donate! During the month of September, CVES will be collecting coins, checks and currency in a large container in the school office. The dollars collected will be donated to the American Red Cross, and the kids can have fun watching the money pile up! Read the attached letter from Mr. Frazier for more information. Walk-to-Math: will be starting next week - please see the attached letter for more information! Volunteer Opportunities: Thank you for your support! At-Home Reading: Students should be reading 20 minutes a night. Monthly reading logs should stay in students' binders, and will be checked every Tuesday. Two nights a week students may use Lexia as their 20 minutes of reading. Archives
