CVES Wheels Unit: May 31st-June 13th
Helmets REQUIRED in PE for participation.
Students will be riding unicycles, rip sticks, razor scooters, and go go pedal rollers.  Thank you for your support.
If your child forgets his/her helmet, there will be a helmet box outside the gym (in the main hall) so you can drop them there. We have PE on Tuesdays.

Our all school BBQ: is on June 9th.  If you or your child would like to buy lunch please fill out our form http://goo.gl/forms/oKLP2BB4dLIMsRjS2 .  If you or your child do not wish to buy lunch, there is no need to fill out the form, just join them for their designated lunch time! The mystery word is calcium.

Student Classroom Supplies now available on line!
Our CVES online “Student Classroom Supply” shopping will be open from Tuesday, May 31st to July 1st !
Our goal is to ease the minds for school preparation and create a one-stop shop for school supplies for next year.  The boxes will have your child’s name on them and be shipped directly to our school!  After July 1st, prices will increase and boxes will be sent to your home.
We hope this help decrease your “To Do” list for next year’s Cubs.
It’s as easy as 1-2-3!
  1. Visit  www.schooltoolbox.com, to purchase your child’s 2016 – 17 classroom supplies. It’s also on our school website under Quick Links.
  2. Search for our school name, then select your child’s grade level for next year(2016-17) and follow the directions for a user friendly shopping experience.
  3. Enjoy your summer!
Alternately, a supply list for each grade will be available on the school website for those who want to purchase supplies themselves.
~Happy shopping.

Completed tri-fold boards: were due back to school today (Tuesday, May 31) ready for our Wax Museum on Thursday, June 2.
Please see the wax museum assignment packet (attached) for specific guidelines.  There is also a page on the 4th grade website with examples.

June Volunteer Calendar: is attached to this week's email. Thanks for all you do to support our classroom learning!

Coming up this week in class:  During this short week, we are working on final math topics and tests for the year, investigating nutrition by tracking what food groups we eat from, learning about Economics, exploring possible careers, and preparing to present our Wax Museum!

Thank you!
Emily Larson

Last week student groups tested their insulating devices using ice cubes, and  were able to apply design features of the more efficient devices to improve their own. On Wednesday, we'll be using our insulators to keep our popsicles (thanks for the donation, Davisons!) cold.

Dear 4th Grade Families,

We have our last SBAC tomorrow (Tuesday).  The subject is Math. It would be great for your students to get a good night’s rest and to eat a healthy breakfast before school tomorrow.  We will have time for a healthy snack during the morning testing as well. Thank you for encouraging your child during this testing!

The mystery word is marketing. If your child forgets his/her helmet, there will be a helmet box outside the gym (in the main hall) so you can drop them there. We have PE on Tuesdays, and for this unit will be moving the time to 2:15 to allow for more space.

Students have been working on their tri-fold boards here at school, and today they went back home to be finished.  Completed tri-fold boards are due back to school on Tuesday, May 31 ready for our Wax Museum on Thursday, June 2. Please see the wax museum assignment packet (attached) for specific guidelines.  There is also a page on the 4th grade website with examples. Our teams are rapidly approaching the Pacific this week as we are working on final group projects, completing the study guide, and planning to study for Friday's test.

Dear 4th Grade Families,

We have SBAC on Tuesday this week.
The subject is Math. It would be great for your students to get a good night’s rest and to eat a healthy breakfast before school tomorrow.  We will have time for a healthy snack during the morning testing as well.Thank you for encouraging your child during this testing!

Our state standardized testing (SBAC) dates are:
Tues, May 3      English Language Arts (ELA)
Tues, May 10    ELA Performance Task (PT), part 1
Wed, May 11     ELA Performance Task (PT), part 2
Tues, May 17    Math
Tues, May 24    Math PT

Goal for the week: Finish my biography report rough draft by Friday.

Some items in  this Monday's take-home folder:
Sign and  return: updates (student self-assessed), May reading logs (in binders)
Review and  keep at  home: Math practice pages

Important Dates:
5/17 & 24         Fourth Grade WA State Standardized Testing
5/30                 No School:  Memorial Day
6/2                  Wax Museum (with parent viewing 9 – 10 am)
6/9                  Field Day

Science Donation Requests: Our class is working on a STEM challenge activity, and I'm looking for families willing to donate extra materials for the project. If anyone has any: bubble wrap, tinfoil, newspaper, or batting (like the inside of a quilt) they'd be willing to part with, please send it in with the kids tomorrow (Tuesday 5/16). The other request will take a bit more coordination... I'm looking for 27 popsicles to come to school next week (one for each student) that must at least be gluten-free and not have any artificial colors. Ideally they would be the type made with real juice. To meet our needs for a controlled science variable, they should all be the same brand. If you have or would be willing to purchase some, please email me with the brand, and we can make arrangements before next week, hopefully with multiple families chipping in. The mystery word is primary source. Thanks for considering!

Wax Museum / Biography: Students should have a tri-fold board for the Wax Museum project, with the student’s name on it, and bring it to school by Wednesday, May 18. If a family would prefer, I can provide poster board for students as well.

Please see the wax museum assignment packet (attached) for specific guidelines.  There is also a page on the 4th grade website with examples. This is a long term project with the checkpoints below.
