Our goal for this week: "Use my revision checklist to improve my opinion writing." Some items in this Tuesday's take-home folder: Sign and return: Weekly Update, January Reading Logs (in binders) Review and keep at home: Math fact tests, Math practice pages (varies by walk-to-math class), The mystery word is: community. January Scholastic Book Order: Last day is today! Scholastic points from parent orders go toward new books and learning materials for our classroom - thank you for your support! Link: scholastic.com/readingclub 4th Grade Relationship Talk: Our counselor Mrs. Kern joined us today for a discussion about the different types of friendships 4th graders have, and how it's ok to have acquaintances and good friends who are boys and girls, but 4th grade is too young for romantic "boyfriends" and "girlfriends". Students brainstormed and practiced words they can use if these subjects come up both at school and away from school, so they can be comfortable letting others know that those types of relationships are something they are not ready for just yet! This would be a great opportunity to check in with your child and open up lines of communication about whether or not this is something they have encountered, and if they feel comfortable with their friend and peer group interactions. The key idea we stress with 4th graders is that it's ok to have feelings, but elementary school is too early to have romantic relationships. Box Top Fundraiser: Please turn in any box tops to the collection box at the front of the school, with the student's name, grade and class marked on the paper, baggie, or envelope. Last day for box top turn-in is 2/13/15. Thank you for supporting our CVES learning community! Ms. Daniels (our neighbor in 3rd grade) has a DonorsChoose.org project to get more Chromebooks for CVES students: Hi Friends,I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to succeed, so I just created a request for my classroom at DonorsChoose.org: Our Future! Give to my classroom by January 18, 2015 and your donation will be doubled thanks to Disney. Just enter the code DISNEY on the payment page and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $150). If you chip in to help my students, you'll get awesome photos and our heartfelt thanks. Thanks so much, Julie Daniels January and February volunteer calendars: are attached to this week's email.
