| The fabulous scientists of room 14 were busy last week! The fourth grade and school science fairs gave students a chance to showcase their independent science learning, and in class we created beach models to investigate erosion by water. Great work, scientists! More photos of 4th graders in action here.

Concert dress is nice attire. There will be songs in different languages from all over the world, recorder karate pieces, boomwhacker and drum playing, and more! I hope all students can attend. Be on the lookout for lyric sheets coming home soon with the students for at-home practicing. See you at the show!
SBA Morning Math Practice
Starting on Thursday, March 1, Mrs. Gose will be offering a weekly SBA math practice class in her classroom (room 19) every Thursday morning from 8:40-9:00. This is meant to be a review class for students who need a bit of refreshing on key 4th grade math skills. It is open to all children who may need extra practice regardless of who their teacher is. Please reach out to Mrs. Gose at [email protected] if you have any further questions. Thank you!
Reading: To complement our recent Native American unit, we are reading The Longest Night by Jacqueline Guest. This story about a boy of the Raven People completing his Vision Quest, focuses on the value of trust and loyalty.
Our lessons focus on:
- Using details to analyze story elements
- Analyzing characters
- Using text evidence to make inferences
- Summarizing the text
- Examining descriptive details
- Describing events in a story
- Using elements of a narrative to determine theme
Writing: Students are starting opinion writing with an emphasis on supporting an opinion using reasons, details, and examples.
Science: Changing Land: The students will make observations to provide evidence of the effects of weathering and erosion by water, ice, wind, or vegetation. We’ll be making and testing models, watching videos, reading, and practicing the Claim, Evidence, Reasoning format to support explanations.
Volunteer Opportunities: Our class volunteer calendar: http://signup.com/go/bKMtZZx Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning!
