Our wall of Lewis & Clark learning is getting full! If you are in the building, take a look at our project work displayed outside the computer lab. Students have explored the purposes, preparations, members, challenges, scientific discoveries, Native American encounters, and outcomes of the expedition. |
For any who missed the news last week, as your children head to 5th grade next year, I will be joining them! I let the kids know before they left Friday that I want to take our entire class with me as we make the move out to the portables. We’ve been a great learning team, and it would be fabulous to continue to grow with the same group of students next year! I’m attaching the letter that will go home in today’s green folder that outlines the benefits and potential drawbacks of “looping” with the same teacher up to the next grade level. Please let myself or Mr. Wilson know if you have any questions or concerns, and we’re asking that you let us know by Thursday of this week if you are choosing to opt out. We absolutely understand that there are benefits to continuing with the same teacher and group, but also benefits to teacher and peer variety, and want every student to have a placement that will help them thrive and grow in 5th grade. (Important note: we are unable to take specific requests for alternate placements.)

May volunteer calendar: attached to this week's email. Thanks again for all you do to support our class's learning - we couldn't do it without you!!! Please let me know if this time doesn't work. If your volunteer time falls on the morning of SBA testing, I will have items to work on out in the volunteer bins with (hopefully!) clear directions, but will not be available for clarification or explanation. Thank you for your flexibility and patience, and your support in providing our students with a quiet testing environment.
Coming Up This Week in Class: We are completing country reports, starting Biography report rough drafts, finishing topic 16 / reviewing math SBA vocabulary / practicing problem solving in math, continuing our social studies / reading Unit on Lewis and Clark, taking the test for our energy unit in science, and completing our second session of SBA testing!
