Don't forget pillows and blankets for Monday's read-in reward! Students continue to earn class events by meeting behavior expectations in the classroom and throughout the school - last week we got another BINGO!
This week's goal:
Reflect on my learning and set personal goals for 2nd trimester learning and behavior.
Some items in this Monday's take-home folder:
Sign and return: (No update from last week), Topic 4 Communicates Mathematical Thinking test
Review and keep at home: math fact tests, ecosystem water test graphs, writing pieces for the kids to read out loud and discuss with you
Conferences Start This Friday! Schedule attached to this week's email. I look forward to meeting with everyone to discuss all of the progress 4th graders have already made this year, and how we can collaborate to best support students moving forward.
November Book Orders: Our last book order fliers before the holiday break went home last week. Thursday is the last day to place orders online, and they will be delivered in plenty of time for the holidays!
Note from Mrs. Herb: In music class the 4th graders have been studying music from many different places in the world. They have really been enjoying the “travels” we are taking. We have explored the musical instruments, folk songs, a little bit of culture, customs, geography, language, and more in many countries: China, Japan, Mexico, Israel, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Ghana, South Africa, and Australia so far.
Some students have shared with the class their knowledge of these countries and others. It has been exciting! With such a vast variety of experiences among the students I thought it would be fun to open up the project. If your child is particularly knowledgeable about a certain country’s music (that we have not yet “traveled” to) and would like to share that with and teach it to the class they are welcome to do so at our next music class! A few students have already expressed an interest in sharing music with their class that is special to them and their family! I look forward to seeing what is shared in the next few weeks.
(Also, you may get to see some of our World Music Unit songs at our concert on March 24th. Mark that date on your calendar.)
WA Topo Map: Our WA Topo map Gravy Group / Extra Credit project is required for Gravy Group students, and optional for all other students. A rough draft was done together in class. Student hands should be doing the work, and parent help/support is encouraged! I'm leaning toward a December 3rd due date at the moment (it won't be due before then).
Important Dates:
11/21 Individual Picture Re-takes
11/22-27 Parent Conferences
11/28-29 No School - Thanksgiving Holiday
12/3 Tentative Topo Map Due Date
Coming Up This Week in Class: Continuing to reflect on 1st trimester learning and set goals for second trimester, investigating WA state economics, exploring more symmetry through the art of snowflakes, learning about figurative language by reading a story about a Heat Wave, and discussing the importance of setting in literatute as we start our study of Cinderella stories from around the world!
With thanks,
Emily Larson
