The Spelling Bee starts at lunch tomorrow. Participating students need to bring a sack lunch (please do not buy lunch on spelling bee days). Thanks!
Valentine’s Day will be celebrated on Thursday, 2/14 in Room 14. All students will have a Valentine’s mail sack/bag made and decorated at school. Due to food allergies and dietary restrictions, we would like to suggest that no candy be distributed at school with student cards. The mystery word is encounter. Any candy on cards will NOT be opened at school; it will be sent home. More information will be sent home in next week’s take home folder and newsletter. Thanks! We will have a low key celebration that afternoon with a healthy snack of red and pink fruits and some activities.

Larson Walk-to-Math: Topics 10: Division
We'll be taking the Topic 10 text next week!
At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Your signature is required on their weekly minute totals every Monday evening. I will be checking for signatures every Tuesday morning.
Reading/Social Studies: Reading to learn content areas like Social Studies and Science becomes much more important in intermediate and middle school years. We are reading Lewis and Clark (In Their Own Words) by George Sullivan. Students will be looking for the main idea and supporting details in our Lewis & Clark books. As we continue our Lewis and Clark unit, students will learn the difference between primary and secondary sources. They will understand the historical context and the importance of Lewis & Clark’s journey as a time of exploration, expansion, and encounter.
Writing: Students will work on writing opinion texts with clear topic sentences, three reasons to support their opinion, and text evidence or details/examples to explain their reasons.
Volunteer Opportunities: Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning! Our class Signup can be viewed here: http://signup.com/go/UZYqOEz
If you'd like to volunteer and are not yet on the calendar, please let me know!
