http://cves4.weebly.com/ms-larsons-2018-students-in-action The password will be included in this week's email newsletter (and I'll have the kids add it to their password page tomorrow)!
I look forward to seeing you in room 14 TOMORROW onTuesday evening (9/18) at 6:30 pm for Curriculum Night.
In 30 minutes, I will attempt to give you an idea of what we do for 10 months in 4th grade and how we go about doing it!
We will also sign up for November conferences; bring your calendar!
If you are unable to come to Curriculum Night, I have a folder full of information that I will send home with your child. It includes the picture order form, walk-a-thon envelope, box top program and lots of other important information about 4th grade.
The parents in attendance will be leaving a note for their child, if you cannot come, please send me an email with a note for your child (words of praise and encouragement) and I will print it out for them and put it on their desk for Wednesday morning.

Scholastic Reading Club Order: Our first reading club flier went home in last week's folders! To place an order, go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs, select "parent" and Continue. You'll need to create an account with your own user name and password (if you don’t have one yet), and use class activation code GPZ63 to connect to our class order. Books will be delivered in 1-2 weeks after the last day to order. As always, our class gets free books and materials with every online order placed. Thanks in advance for helping us expand our classroom library and programs! The last day to order books is today, Monday, September 17th. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Math Facts: Fourth grade students must be fluent in all multiplication and related division facts up to 12. Please use our on line program REFLEX https://www.reflexmath.com/go (username: [email protected]) or visit the 4th grade blog to learn strategies and interactive ways to practice math facts at home.
Math: At Curriculum Night, you will receive a letter explaining the online resources and your student’s log in information for our EnVisions Math curriculum. It may be a new experience to have the electronic textbook, quizzes, and games available from a home computer. We are working through Topic 1: Multiplication and Division; meanings and facts.
At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Your signature is required on their weekly minute totals every Monday evening. I will be checking for signatures every Tuesday morning. (Our September reading logs start today.)
Reading: Our reading lessons focus on:
- Using details and examples from the text as evidence to support comprehension
- Describing characters and setting
- Determining the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text
- Engaging in collaborative discussions
Writing: Students will be starting research and informational writing focused on stating a main idea (using a topic sentence) and providing supporting details.
Social Studies (coming soon): Students will be learning about the United States government with an introduction to the branches and levels of government, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution.
Science: Our first "Scope" (unit) is Plant and Animal Parts. Students will be practicing supporting their ideas with information and observations, learning how plants and animals' structures function to help them survive, and using models to understand systems.
Volunteer Opportunities: Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning! Special thanks for your patience and help this week as I get all the volunteer times entered into Signup.com.
