Coming up this week in class: Learning about nutrition by tracking the food groups of the foods we eat, taking the nutrition test, presenting our Wax Museum characters on Thursday, ending our walk-to-math learning for the year, starting the blastoff to 5th grade with notes to ourselves, board games, and an art project!
As a part of the health curriculum, the fourth grade has a short presentation on human growth and development. Please read the attached letter. All students will view their gender specific video on, Thursday, June 7.
There will be an opportunity for parent viewing of the videos on:
Tues, June 5 8:30 am (girl: Room 4) and 3:30 pm (girl: Room 18)
Wed, June 6 8:30 am (boy: Room 4) and 3:30 pm (boy: Room 18)
All screenings are open to all parents/guardians regardless of homeroom teacher. Last year many parents found it helpful to watch the video so that they could discuss the content with their children at home. We encourage you to come and watch the approximately 20-minute video.

Health/Reading: This week the students continue our unit on nutrition. They will learn about the 5 food groups and their health benefits. Students will be tracking their food intake for homework. Don’t be surprised if they start reading labels and asking for more fruits and veggies this week and next! : )
Social Studies: Our study of Government and Civics learning targets includes:
- Understanding that the struggle for independence was culminated in 1776 with the Declaration of Independence; that there are three branches of government; and that Congress is made up of two parts.
- Students will also understand that American citizens have both rights and responsibilities; that changes in these rights and responsibilities are called amendments.
- Students will learn that the citizens of Washington State must live by both federal and state laws; and understand that the citizens of Washington State live within city and county governments.
