| Today we started learning techniques that artists can use to show perspective and depth in art. So far we've practiced using converging lines and overlapping. Four more techniques will be coming tomorrow, then we'll be using these skills for a whole-class project to kick off our Native American studies unit! |
I hope everyone had a wonderful break filled with family time and favorite activities!
Our goal for this week: "Get back into the swing of things with expected 4th grade behavior."
Some items in this Tuesday's take-home folder:
Sign and return: Weekly Update, December Reading Log (in binders), January Reading Logs (in binders)
Review and keep at home: Math fact tests, Math practice pages (varies by walk-to-math class), WA region project and presentation scores, WA Geo Quizes
The Optional WA Topographic Map optional Project is due on tomorrow, Tuesday, January 6, 2015. This project is an effective way for students to reinforce their learning. By creating a three-dimensional clay (play-doh or model magic) map showing the elevations, regions, important bodies of water, major cities, and boundaries of Washington State, students learn-by-doing.
Box Top Fundraiser: Please turn in any box tops to the collection box at the front of the school, with the student's name, grade and class marked on the paper, baggie, or envelope. Last day for box top turn-in is 2/13/15. Thank you for supporting our CVES learning community!
January and February volunteer calendars: are attached to this week's email. Please let me know if you need any adjustments or can't be here on your day. Thanks again for all you do to support our class's learning - we couldn't do it without you!!! The mystery word is: perspective.
Attendance Hotline: If your child will be missing school or tardy for any reason, please be sure to call the attendance hotline: 425-831-4108. Due to changes in the district's policy, if a student is absent and the attendance line has not been called, our school secretaries are required to call all the emergency contact numbers in that student's file until they can find a reason for the absence. Please call the attendance line!
Important Dates:
1/06/15 Optional WA Topo Map Due Date
1/19/15 No School (Martin Luther King, Jr Holiday)
2/13 Last day for Box Top Fundraising
2/16 – 2/20 No school Mid-Winter Break
Coming Up This Week in Class: We are finishing launching Envisions Topic 11 (factors and fractions), sharing and reflecting on Fantasy Book Reports, sharing Washington Topo Maps, learning about perspective in art, studying the NW Coast ecosystem, creating a NW coast frieze, hearing from Mrs. Kern on strategies to handle strong feelings, and starting our Native American novel studies!
In our partnership to ensure success for your child, good communication is critical. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at [email protected]. I’d love to hear from you and look forward to working with you this year.
With thanks,
Emily Larson
