We’d like to give a big welcome to our new student, Ryan and his family! The fourth graders have done a wonderful job of helping Ryan find his way around CVES and feel welcome in the classroom.
Our goal this week: Start 3rd Trimester right with excellent, expected behavior.
Some items in this Monday's take-home folder:
Sign and return: updates (student self-assessed), March reading logs in binders)
Review and keep at home: Math practice pages with effort scores, Newbery book reports and Fantasy book reports with effort scores, opinion writing pieces, math facts / mad minutes
Report cards and Trimester 2 Work/Tests: This week students are reflecting on what they accomplished in 2nd trimester and focusing on goals for new learning and improvement in 3rd trimester. Report cards will be available to view via Family Access next Monday. Look for 2nd trimester student work/tests coming home in a large envelope next Monday as well.
Hydroelectricity Learning: Last Friday, we were treated to a lesson on hydroelectricity by Andy Strong, who works for Seattle City Light and has a
student in our class. Thanks so much for sharing your time and knowledge, Mr.
Strong! This was a great addition to the science learning in our recent electricity unit.
Presentation on Fire Safety: Don’t be surprised if your children start talking about fire safety, smoke detectors, and escape routes because Mr. Cronin (firefighter husband of 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Cronin) will visit us on Thursday to complement the “Wild Fires” reading selection in our textbooks. He will provide a lot of valuable information and suit up in all his gear.
March Scholastic book club fliers: Last day to order is this Thursday March 13th. https://clubs2.scholastic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/LogonForm
Important Dates:

3/13 Science, Art, & Spelling Night 5:30 (PTSA)

Coming Up This Week in Class: We are working on Math Topic 12 (Adding and Subtracting Fractions With Like Denominators; Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers), investigating stars and our solar system in science, starting our non-fiction book based on the journals of Lewis & Clark, writing haikus and limmericks as examples of poetry that follow rules, and reflecting on 2nd Trimester learning!
With thanks,
