| Students have been working in teams to complete map skill-related tasks such as these vocabulary puzzles. In our simulation we'll be using these skills to locate the members of a missing expedition, and at the end of the unit teams will be able to use the points they've been earning to purchase "parts" for their rescue vehicles! |

Destination Imagination (From PTSA): Destination Imagination is an after-school program the PTSA will help fund this year. It's teams of 5-7 students, hopefully one team per grade level, with a volunteer team manager who will lead weekly meetings. Using STEM skills and also the Arts, each team will get to choose one of seven Challenges to solve, and then they will present their solution at a regional tournament in April. The PTSA is in need of team managers -- the program cannot work without one for each team! here is an informational meeting for students, parents and staff on Thurday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. Learn more about it at www.destinationimagination.org
Reading Forum for young readers: with SVSD educator Jan Formisano, Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. in MPR. Learn tips and games to hold kids' interest, and receive a packet of flash cards to cut out, word lists and more. Free babysitting! RSVP at 831-8424.
Coming Up This Week in Class: We are finishing Math Topic 1 (Multiplication and division meanings and facts), starting Walk-to-Math with Topic 2 (Generating and Analyzing Patterns), reading a non-fiction piece about the Titanic, continuing our map skills unit, practicing correct use of tricky words (homonyms), finishing Earthquake Terror, and writing notes to our parents for Curriculum night!
