Books will be delivered in 1-2 weeks after the last day to order. As always, our class gets free books and materials with every online order placed. Thanks in advance for helping us expand our classroom library and programs! State standardized testing (SBAC) for 4th grade begins in May. Our testing dates are: May 9; 14; 15; 21; and 22. Please try not to schedule medical/dental appointments or vacations on these days! Thank you! Math Facts: Fourth grade students must be fluent in all multiplication and related division facts up to 12. Please use our on line program REFLEX https://www.reflexmath.com/go (username: [email protected]) or visit the 4th grade blog to learn strategies and interactive ways to practice math facts at home. Larson Walk-to-Math: Topic 12 - Adding and Subtracting Fractions and Mixed Numbers with Like Denominators; Extension: Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators. Note: This is a longer topic, and the number of required IXL Skills / Math Menu projects needed to earn a 3 for Effort has been increased! At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Your signature is required on their weekly minute totals every Monday evening. I will be checking for signatures every Tuesday morning. Social Studies: To review our geography vocabulary students will be completing a fun project called Create-A-Country (attached here). The rough draft will be completed in class by Wednesday and the final poster (provided) will be finished at home. It is due on Friday, March 22. We are studying the geography of Washington State with desk maps. Coming soon: at-home (optional but highly recommended) WA State Topographic Map project Reading: We are starting a nonfiction text on Earthquakes. Key reading skills in this unit include identifying main ideas and supporting details, comparing and contrasting, making inferences, understanding figurative language, summarizing a text, and citing text evidence to support ideas. Writing: Students will continue writing opinion paragraphs with clear topic sentences, three reasons to support their opinion, and text evidence or details/examples to explain their reasons. Conventions: We are working on correct punctuation for citing evidence in an opinion paragraph and using transition/linking phrases. Volunteer Opportunities: Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning!
