Halloween Message from Mr. Frazier:
Students may wear costumes to school on Halloween, October 31st, the theme will be around their favorite storybook character. The mystery word is strait. Costumes may NOT contain any weapons, blood, or gore. Costumes should not be scary and masks/face paint will not be allowed during the school day. Students who come to school in costumes with the above items will need to change. Students will be participating in regular activities for the day, such as specialists and recess, so please make sure they have appropriate shoes and jackets.

Coming up this week in class:
Completing our second Eureka Math module on converting metric units of measurements, learning about Refusing Bullying in our counseling lesson with Mrs. Kern, reading Skeletons: Inside and Out, using desk maps to explore Washington State geography, completing our scientist informational writing, and celebrating Harvest in our classroom!
Conferences: Please check the Conference Schedule attached to this week's email newsletter to make sure we have the correct time. I'm looking forward to sharing 1st Trimester progress!
Washington State Topo Map: It is time for our much anticipated at home challenge (optional extra credit) project ….. the Washington State topographical map due on Wednesday, Nov 13. This is a fantastic learning experience for your child! Students have colored a rough draft (should be in the binder) and additional resources and helpful examples are posted on the 4th grade website. Please sign the green assignment packet so I know that you are aware of this important extra credit project. Thank you!

At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Your signature is required on their weekly minute totals every Monday evening. I will be checking for signatures every Tuesday morning.
Reading: Our reading lessons focus on:
- Using details and examples from the text as evidence to support comprehension
- Identifying main ideas and supporting details
- Identifying non-fiction text structures
- Determining the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text
- Engaging in collaborative discussions
Writing: Students are working on research and informational writing focused on stating a main idea (using a topic sentence) and providing supporting details.
Social Studies: Our Geography lessons focus on:
- Map-reading skills
- Geography vocabulary
- Washington state water bodies, land forms, climate, and human-created features
