It was wonderful to see so many of you at curriculum night last week! If you were unable to join us, I've attached a PDF version of the slide show to give you an idea of what was covered.
For those who signed up for conferences, please check the schedule attached to this week's email to confirm your scheduled time. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please let me know which of the open times works best for your family.
Important Dates:
9/25 Last day for September book orders
9/27 Individual picture day for 4th grade
10/12 Walk-a-thon (from 10 – 11:15 am for 4th grade) WEAR PURPLE!

Review and Keep at Home: Word art from Tech class, Geo Quilts with art effort scores (for those who turned them in early), informational letter about Walk-to-Math starting next week.
Empty Monday Folder due back every Tuesday
Goal for the Week: Use 4th grade art standards to complete my Create-a-Country.
Coming up this week in class: We're finishing Envision Math Topic 2 (Generate and Analyze Patterns), investigating how plants and animals use their structures to help them survive, practicing good discussion and note-taking habits, creating and sharing Create-a-Country projects, reading Porpoises in Peril while we focus on finding text evidence to support ideas, researching and writing informative paragraphs, and starting 1st Trimester Class Jobs!
Scholastic Reading Club Order: Last day today! To place an order, go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs, select "parent" and Continue. You'll need to create an account with your own user name and password (if you don’t have one yet), and use class activation code GPZ63 to connect to our class order. Books will be delivered in 1-2 weeks after the last day to order. As always, our class gets free books and materials with every online order placed. Thanks in advance for helping us expand our classroom library and programs! The last day to order books will be Monday, September 25th. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Growth Mindset: Last week Mrs. Kern presented a lesson to our class about Growth Mindset and working through challenges and failure on the road to success. I've attached the slideshow and encourage you to check it out and discuss with your child!
Walk-a-thon fundraising envelopes went home on Friday! The mystery word is function.
Individual Picture Day: for 4th grade is September 27th. A digital copy of the order form is attached, and paper copies went home with students on Friday.
Hurricane Harvey Coin Drive: Last week to donate! During the month of September, CVES will be collecting coins, checks and currency in a large container in the school office. The dollars collected will be donated to the American Red Cross, and the kids can have fun watching the money pile up! Read the attached letter from Mr. Frazier for more information.
Walk-to-Math: will be starting next week - please see the attached letter for more information!
Volunteer Opportunities: Thank you for your support! Our classroom calendar is here: http://signup.com/go/bKMtZZx and shows Spots for those who volunteered for recurring volunteer times for the year. I appreciate all the folks who volunteered for at-home correcting! Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning!
Please visit our 4th grade blog…. http://cves4.weebly.com/
Homework: Please check the binder reminder (located in the front of the binder) to support your child’s homework habits. It is also posted on our classroom blog daily.
In our partnership to ensure success for your child, good communication is critical. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at larsone@svsd410.org. I’d love to hear from you and look forward to working with you this year.
With thanks,
