| Students in my math class conducted surveys, created graphs, and wrote questions about their data. The complete collection is being displayed outside our classroom, along with answer pages if you'd like to try their problems! |

Our Native American Potlatch Ceremony is scheduled for 1 pm on Thursday, January 28 in the multi-purpose room
(families are invited … we need a patient and encouraging audience).
Last week you should have received an email from our room parents soliciting food/beverage donations and volunteers for this event.
Students should wear plain pants and shoes if possible, and a tan t-shirt will be provided to go over students' shirts.
Homework change for online programs: If you are checking the homework online or in your student's binder, you might notice a change this week in the binder reminder and homework expectations. "5 minutes of math facts" has been replaced by a to-do list for online work that students will have some time in school to start, and can either complete or take further at home. Three of the websites are provided by the district: Dreambox for math skills and concepts, Lexia for English Language Arts skills, and Typing Agent for typing fluency. My class is trying one more - a math fact practice page called Math Fact Pro. I've started a free account for each student in my homeroom class, and can view online their usage and progress. For most students, these pages should amount to about an hour of work, and it will be possible for them to complete this during our after-recess work time from 2:20-2:40 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. More work at home, particularly in individually challenging subject areas, might be a good idea for some kids. All usernames and passwords should be written down on the login information page in students' binders. Please let me know if you have any questions that your child is unable to answer about this shift!
Novel Study check the Book club page of the fourth grade website for information!
Valentine’s Day will be celebrated on Friday, 2/12 in Room 19.
All students will have a Valentine’s mail sack/bag made and decorated at school. No candy will be distributed at school. The mystery word is: contrast. Cards only…..a name list is attached to this week's email, and a paper copy will come home in this week's green folders.
January volunteer calendar: attached to this week's email. Thanks again for all you do to support our class's learning - we couldn't do it without you!!!
Coming Up This Week in Class: We are finishing Math Topic 10 (longer Division) and starting Topic 11 (fractions), publishing our first opinion writing piece, writing about Camp Waskowitz, practicing for our village's potlatch, studying for the Social Studies test, meeting with book clubs, and celebrating potlatch!
