Goal for the Week: Write at least 6 timeline entries and take notes on at least 2 subtopics.
Coming up this week in class: Continuing measurement or starting geometry in Walk to Math, reading a fictional story called Lunch Money, writing opinion essays using information from provided sources about zoos, learning about the early people of the Pacific Northwest Coast through our Storypath, creating a travel sketch in our Museo art lesson, and celebrating Cub Card and Attendance success!
Challenge/Extra Credit Opportunities: Managing Anxiety - due 4/30
No Bus Passes for the Rest of the Year: We are down to one bus combining both of our routes so there is no space for extra kids to ride home with friends until the end of the year. Please let your families know about this. If kids are going home with a friend, parents will need to pick them up at school.
Larson Walk-to-Math: Topic 16 - Geometry. Line types, measuring and classifying angels, classifying quadrilaterals, classifying triangles, and line symmetry.
At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Your signature is required on their weekly minute totals every Monday evening. I will be checking for signatures every Tuesday morning.
Social Studies: We are starting our Storypath study of the early people of the Pacific Northwest coast! Our classroom will become a village as students learn how people met their needs for food, shelter, and culture using the natural resources available in the Coast environment. The mystery term is natural resource.
Reading: We are reading a fictional text called Lunch Money. Reading skills to focus on include: character analysis, inference, summary, figurative language, and theme.
Writing: Students are working on opinion writing, with an emphasis on stating an opinion clearly, using evidence from multiple sources to support that opinion, and editing/revising.
Conventions: We are working on correct punctuation for quoted text and using transition/linking phrases.
