Friday was Miss Snider's last day of student teaching, and we're really going to miss her! She might be making some guest appearances during the rest of the school year, but we wish her the best of luck as she moves on to substitute teaching and interviewing for teaching jobs. Any school will be lucky to have Miss Snider!

Books will be delivered in 1-2 weeks after the last day to order. As always, our class gets free books and materials with every online order placed. Thanks in advance for helping us expand our classroom library and programs!
Making Up Instructional Time Lost Due to Snow Closures
- February 4 (will be made up on Friday, May 24)
- February 5 (will be made up on Friday, June 14)
- February 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 (waiver request days)
- Converting 10 Early Release Fridays into full school days, beginning March 29 through June 7; and
- Adding 12 minutes to the end of EVERY school day, starting Monday, March 25, and extending through Thursday, June 13. (See the Revised School Start & Dismissal Times with extra minutes added, which will be effective March 25.)
Math Facts: Fourth grade students must be fluent in all multiplication and related division facts up to 12. Please use our on line program REFLEX https://www.reflexmath.com/go (username: [email protected]) or visit the 4th grade blog to learn strategies and interactive ways to practice math facts at home.
No Bus Passes for the Rest of the Year: We are down to one bus combining both of our routes so there is no space for extra kids to ride home with friends until the end of the year. Please let your families know about this. If kids are going home with a friend, parents will need to pick them up at school. The mystery word is longhouse.
Larson Walk-to-Math: Topic 15 - Solving Measurement Problems. Problem solving in this short topic includes measurement conversions, making/reading line plots, and finding area and perimeter.
At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Your signature is required on their weekly minute totals every Monday evening. I will be checking for signatures every Tuesday morning.
Social Studies: We are starting our Storypath study of the early people of the Pacific Northwest coast! Our classroom will become a village as students learn how people met their needs for food, shelter, and culture using the natural resources available in the Coast environment.
WA Topo Map Project: Students have completed rough dafts of the at-home (optional but highly recommended) WA State Topographic Map project. See the project page for resources and examples!
Reading: We are reading a fictional text called Lunch Money. Reading skills to focus on include: character analysis, inference, summary, figurative language, and theme.
Writing: Students are working on narrative writing, with an emphasis on developing characters and setting, including meaningful dialogue, creating and problem and solution, using specific words and vivid descriptions, and editing/revising.
Conventions: We are working on correct punctuation for dialogue and using transition/linking phrases.
Volunteer Opportunities: Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning! Our class Signup can be viewed here: http://signup.com/go/UZYqOEz
If you'd like to volunteer and are not yet on the calendar, please let me know!
