For our Economics unit, students planned their own businesses, deciding to sell a good or a service, listing the expenses their business would have to pay, and planning at least one form of advertising they might use to promote their businesses. Way to go, 4th grade entrepreneurs! | |
You are invited to the

No new updates for this week or next!
Some items in this Monday's take-home folder:
Sign and return: teacher-assessed updates with 3 things students learned about internet safety, May Reading Logs (in binders)
Review and keep at home: Math fact tests, Math practice pages (varies by walk-to-math class), Cub Cards, Storyworks magazines, Wax Museum Invitations
Laundry Volunteer Request: would anyone be willing to wash and dry our class's t-shirts for the t-shirt decorating project at the end of the year? They don't need to be folded (I'll be getting them damp again before they can be decorated). Thank you!
Internet Safety Assembly: This morning we had an “Internet Safety” assembly for grades 3-5 facilitated by Officer Stephanie Thomas, of the Seattle Police Department, who shared stories and best practices to implement as students and families! Areas covered included Cyber-Bullying, Social networking, Texting and Internet Safety tips.
- A great resource Officer Thomas recommened: http://www.netsmartz.org/Parents.
- Snoqualmie Valley School District resources: http://www.svsd410.org/parents/schoolsafety/onlinesafety.asp
- Additional information: http://www.svsd410.org/parents/harassment_bullying/index.asp.
Afterward, our class each wrote three things they learned today in the assembly (see page stapled to last week's update). Some items students learned included:
- You have to be 13 to have your own Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- When you delete something it’s not actually gone
- It’s easy to track people online
- Never talk or type to strangers
- Don’t share your passwords with siblings or friends
- Don’t use a picture of yourself for a profile picture
- Apps track you
- Don’t put where you are or will be online
- You shouldn’t have your name in your email address or handle
- If someone says something online that is not appropriate, rude, or mean, then you have to save and tell a parent/guardian/teacher
- Kids can be arrested for cyber bullying
- Don’t put private information online
Please use their "three things" and this list from our class as a conversation starter about internet safety! The mystery word is: nutrient.
