Pond dipping with Nature Vision last week was wet but wonderful! Students identified aquatic invertebrates to gather evidence about the amount of pollution in two different ponds. Thanks to our volunteer chaperones who braved the weather and to our PTSA who sponsored our classroom session and field trip! Costumes should not be scary and masks/face paint will not be allowed during the school day. Students who come to school in costumes with the above items will need to change. Starting our second Eureka Math module on converting metric units of measurements, finishing reading unit 1A by comparing three different texts, using desk maps to explore Washington State geography, sharing finished Create-a-Countries, researching a scientist, and celebrating reaching our goal at the Walkathon assembly!
The Create-a-Country project provides an opportunity for the children to demonstrate their understanding of geography vocabulary and concepts while creating an island nation with an original theme. Most students completed a rough draft together in class (for some this still needs to be done at home before they receive their final poster to work on); the final draft needs to be completed at home. Our Create-A-Country project is due on Wednesday, Oct 23. This is a project for 4th grade hands and minds to complete. Thank you for gently guiding and encouraging your child to do their best work.
Homework: This year, your child will be keeping track of assignments and homework in a weekly tracker. At home, please check the weekly tracker (located in the front of the binder) to support your child’s homework habits. It is also posted on our classroom blog daily. Please use our on line program REFLEX https://www.reflexmath.com/go (username: [email protected]) or visit the 4th grade blog to learn strategies and interactive ways to practice math facts at home.
