Reflections: Use the arts to share your personal Reflections on this year’s theme: HEROES AROUND ME. Submissions are due to CVES Reflections chair Vanessa Rimkus by Monday December 3, 2018 either between 8:45-9:05 or after school that day from 3:25-3:45 in the Multi Purpose Room. If other arrangements need to be made prior to that date, please email [email protected] to make arrangements. More information is available at https://www.wastatepta.org/events-programs/reflections/ and the entry form can be found on the fourth grade homepage: http://cves4.weebly.com/
Social Emotional Learning: These are student reflections on how to respect similarities and differences in how others feel, and how it might help at school:
- Some ways I can notice how other people feel is I can pay attention to their facial expression. I can also notice how other people feel by listening to their tone. You can also feel what they are feeling for example if someone was bullying someone you could feel what it would feel like to be them.
- A way you can notice how someone is feeling is looking at their facial expressions, their body movement and posture, and maybe even what they are saying. This can helpful at school because then if you find someone in a bad mood, you can fix them by knowing what they are feeling.
- You can notice how others feel by looking at their, facial expressions like if they are frowning there probably sad or if their smiling their probably happy, you can be nice to people and don’t bully because it makes people sad. Invite someone to play with you if their all alone and looking not happy, or give people compliments say nice things and don’t say mean things like your lunch looks gross because that lunch could be one of their favorite lunch. Or if they don’t speak the same language as you and they are brand new to this country and the school ask them to play with you if they are looking sad.
Math Facts: Fourth grade students must be fluent in all multiplication and related division facts up to 12. Please use our on line program REFLEX https://www.reflexmath.com/go (username: [email protected]) or visit the 4th grade blog to learn strategies and interactive ways to practice math facts at home.
Larson Walk-to-Math: Topic 5: Multiplying by 1-digit Numbers. Goals: I can use place value understanding and multiplication properties to multiply by one-digit numbers. Challenge Goal: I can write algebraic expressions to show multiplication and division scenarios. I can use exponents and the Order of Operations to simplify and evaluate expressions.
(Starting at the end of this week: Data collection and presentation extension project)
At-home Reading: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night, with a goal of 100 minutes each week. Your signature is required on their weekly minute totals every Monday evening. I will be checking for signatures every Tuesday morning.
Reading: We are reading Why the Sea is Salty.
Our reading lessons focus on:
- Using Text Details to describe a setting
- Comparing and Contrasting Point of View
- Using Details to Determine Theme
- Analyzing Problems and Solutions
- Describing Characters and Events
- Determining Genre
Writing: Students will work on writing narratives that include descriptive details for the setting, dialogue between characters, a clear sequence of events, and a problem and solution.
Conventions: We are working on compound words, suffixes and prefixes.
Science: Our guiding question is: How does an animal hunt and find food? Students will be using models and writing CERs (Claim; Evidence; Reasoning) to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in different ways.
Volunteer Opportunities: Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning! Our class Signup can be viewed here: http://signup.com/go/UZYqOEz
