I look forward to seeing you tonight, Monday evening (9/18) at 7 pm for Curriculum Night. In 30 minutes, I will attempt to give you an idea of what we do for 10 months in 4th grade and how we go about doing it! We will also sign up for November conferences; bring your calendar!
If you cannot attend this evening, I will send home a packet of information with your child. If you would like to write an encouraging note to your child that I can place on his/her desk tomorrow morning, please email it to me and I will print it out.
Important Dates:
9/18 Curriculum Night for 4th grade at 7 pm
9/25 Last day for September book orders
9/27 Individual picture day for 4th grade
10/12 Walk-a-thon (from 10 – 11:15 am for 4th grade) WEAR PURPLE!
Monday Take Home Folders/Return to School every Tuesday:
Sign and Return: Signed and tallied Reading Log (in binders), Signed Weekly Update/Goal Sheet (starts this week!), class handbook
Review and Keep at Home: September book order, Museo flier, summer postcard brainstorm page. The mystery word is archipelago.
Empty Monday Folder due back every Tuesday
Homework: Please check the binder reminder (located in the front of the binder) to support your child’s homework habits. It is also posted on our classroom blog daily.
Goal for the Week: Make quick, quiet transitions in class.
Coming up this week in class: We're finishing Envision Math Topic 1 (Multiplication and Division Meaning and Facts) and starting Topic 2 (Generate and Analyze Patterns), investigating how plants and animals use their structures to help them survive, learning and reviewing geography vocabulary by illustrating geography "quilts", introducing the Create-a-Country project, reading Porpoises in Peril while we focus on finding text evidence to support ideas, researching and writing informative paragraphs, and applying for 1st Trimester Class Jobs!
Scholastic Reading Club Order: Our first reading club flier will go home in today's Monday folders! To place an order, go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs, select "parent" and Continue. You'll need to create an account with your own user name and password (if you don’t have one yet), and use class activation code GPZ63 to connect to our class order. Books will be delivered in 1-2 weeks after the last day to order. As always, our class gets free books and materials with every online order placed. Thanks in advance for helping us expand our classroom library and programs! The last day to order books will be Monday, September 25th. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Individual Picture Day: for 4th grade is September 27th. A digital copy of the order form is attached; please look for paper copy coming home in the next few days.
Recorder Unit in Music: Last week Mrs. Herb sent home a letter to let 4th grade families know about the recorder unit students have started in music. See the attached file for more information on this engaging music learning experience!
Hurricane Harvey Coin Drive: During the month of September, CVES will be collecting coins, checks and currency in a large container in the school office. The dollars collected will be donated to the American Red Cross, and the kids can have fun watching the money pile up! Read the attached letter from Mr. Frazier for more information.
Volunteer Opportunities: Thank you for your support! As parents confirm their volunteer times I am adding them to the on-line volunteer management tool, SignUp.com. Thanks for your patience as I try out a new system! Our classroom calendar is here: http://signup.com/go/bKMtZZx. I appreciate all the folks who volunteered for at-home correcting! Thanks, again, for all you do to support children, teachers and learning!
